What you need to know about CS2
What is bought and sold for CS2?
- Skins. Finishes for guns, knives and gloves. Skins live in your Steam inventory and move to another account through a trade.
- Accounts. Premier rating, Prime Status, ban history and inventory value set the price.
If you want a specific skin in CS2, you don't need to buy an account: the skin is sold on its own and arrives in your account through a trade.
What to check when buying a skin
- Wear (float). The same skin exists in different wear levels, from Factory New to Battle-Scarred, and the price changes accordingly.
- Pattern. On some skins the pattern number changes the look, and therefore the price.
- StatTrak™. Versions with a kill counter usually cost more than those without one.
For delivery, your Steam trade link (Trade URL) is enough. Before accepting the trade offer, check that the incoming item is the skin in the listing and that its wear value matches.
Buying an account: you take over the whole Steam account
A CS2 account is really a Steam account; the inventory, the other games in the library and the Steam Guard settings come with it.
- Ban status. A VAC ban is permanent and shows on the Steam profile; verify the listing's information on the profile.
- Steam Guard. If the mobile authenticator stays on the seller's phone, the account can be taken back later.
- Email. The email linked to the account must be handed over too; if it stays with the seller, the account can be reclaimed through a password reset.
Frequently asked questions
I only want one skin. Do I have to buy an account?
No. CS2 skins move between accounts through Steam trades; the skin you buy goes straight to your own account.
Do I need to give my Steam password to buy a skin?
No. Delivery only needs your Steam trade link. Report any seller who asks for your password, a Steam Guard code or an API key.
The trade is complete. Why isn't the seller's payment released right away?
Steam keeps completed trades under protection for 7 days, and the trade can be reversed during that time. The seller's payment waits at Knightpin until this period ends.
What should I do first after buying an account?
First change the password of the linked email, then the Steam password, and set up the Steam Guard mobile authenticator on your own phone. After these changes Steam may restrict trading and the Community Market for a while; this is normal.
