In-game cosmetics and skins

Skin delivery: trade or account?

Skin listings are delivered in two different ways, and they don’t carry the same risk:

• By trade. In games that support trading, like CS2, the skin comes straight to your inventory; you don’t give your account to anyone. This is the method to prefer.
• Through the account. Skins that can’t be traded (as in Valorant or LoL) are only handed over together with the account. In that case you’re really buying an account; read the rules of the account category.

There’s one more detail on Steam: a traded item is put under protection for 7 days. During this time you can use the item, but you can’t trade it again or sell it. Keep this in mind if you plan to flip the skin you buy right away.

Reading the listing

• Full name and wear. The Factory New and Battle-Scarred versions of the same skin are different products; the listing title should say which one it is.
• StatTrak / special pattern. These change the price a lot and should be stated in the listing description.
• Trading rights. If you’ll receive the skin by trade, your Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator must be set up and active, otherwise the trade is delayed.
• Ask for a screenshot. A screenshot of the skin in the inventory is the quickest way to confirm it matches the listing.

Frequently asked questions

Can I resell the skin I bought right away?

Not on Steam. A traded item is put under protection for 7 days; during this time you can use it but can’t trade or sell it.

Can I buy a Valorant or LoL skin on its own?

No. In these games skins are tied to the account and can’t be traded; they can only be handed over together with the account.

What do I need to trade?

On Steam you need the Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator. If it isn’t set up, the trade can’t be completed or is put on hold.

Why does the price of the same skin vary so much?

Wear level, whether it’s StatTrak and the pattern set the price. Don’t compare prices without reading the full name in the listing title.
